Vehicle linked to missing children case in Ontario, Manitoba, found in Sask. park

Saskatchewan RCMP found an abandoned vehicle in Pine Cree Regional Park on Friday linked to an ongoing missing persons case spanning Ontario and Manitoba.

In December 2023, three children were reported missing in Durham, Ontario, northwest of Toronto. They were found last Sunday, but disappeared again.

On June 16, the three boys – Leon, 12, Christopher, 11, and Thomas, 9 – and their mother, 55-year-old Astrid Schiller, were found at the Boissevain Port of Entry in Manitoba, where RCMP said they attempted to enter the United Crossing states.

The boys were placed in a home and Schiller, who had a child abduction warrant out in Ontario, was arrested. She was later released by RCMP because the warrant’s jurisdiction did not extend to Manitoba.

Police were notified around 1:30 a.m. on Monday that the three boys were missing from the home where they had been placed, and that they were believed to be on the road again with their mother.

Schiller was believed to be driving a white 2018 Mercedes GLC with a British Columbia license plate SJ975W, which was found in the Saskatchewan Park in the Cypress Hills.

Officers said the children and their mother have not been found, but say Schiller may have been spotted in Assiniboia, Saxony, within the past week.

Police say an Amber Alert is not being issued because there is no evidence the children are in danger. Schiller’s arrest warrant also does not extend to Saskatchewan.
