The holiday season starts in Edmonton – Edmonton

There are two more major holiday events in Edmonton this weekend.

Saturday from 5 p.m., Kingsway comes alive with the fifth annual Kingsway Holiday Parade.

“(It's) just a really fun event to start the holidays with,” said Ellie Sasseville, executive director of the Kingsway Business Improvement Area.

“This is just one way we can bring that to our part of town, to support the businesses around us, spread holiday cheer and help Santa make his way to the Kingsway Mall.”

Thirty floats are participating this year and more than 5,000 people are expected to line the streets.

“You'll see everything from festive, decorated floats to EPS and even the RCMP, as well as city officials participating in the holiday parade,” Sasseville said.

“The view is optimal everywhere along Kingsway, from the Superstore to the Kingsway Mall.”

People are advised to arrive early as road closures in the area begin around 4pm

A few minutes away, 124th Street is ready for a big holiday party.

All is Bright returns for the twelfth time on Saturday.

“The streets are decorated, the lights are changing for the holidays,” said Luwam Kiflemariam, executive director of the 124 Street Business Association.

“This year you will notice we have our red ribbons all over the BIA areas of 124th Street.”

From 107th Avenue to 109th Avenue, 124th Street is closed.

More than 30,000 people are expected.

“It has that cute, Hallmark vibe where you can walk around, dream, shop and enjoy the atmosphere,” Kiflemariam said.
