Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh enters the Olympic record books after winning gold in the women’s 200-meter butterfly with a time of 2:03:03 on Thursday.
All eyes were on McIntosh, who looked set to impress again after already winning gold in the medley and silver in the freestyle.
The 17-year-old started the race among the top three swimmers, behind China’s Zhang Yufei, but as the event progressed McIntosh took the lead.

Ultimately, McIntosh finished first, followed by Regan Smith from the USA who took silver and China who took bronze.
Not only does it mark a record that McIntosh takes home, she joins Canadians George Hodgson in 1912 and Alex Baumann in 1984 as the only three Canadian swimmers to win double gold medals at the Olympics and she is the only female swimmer from Canada to do so.
McIntosh’s time in the pool isn’t over yet, though. Later on Thursday, she’ll compete in the freestyle relay and the 200-meter medley.
