Stabbing attack in China: former student kills eight in second mass attack in a week

A former student has committed a stabbing attack at a vocational school in eastern China, killing eight people and wounding 17 others, just days after the country's deadliest mass killing in a decade.
The latest knife attack took place at the Wuxi Vocational College of Arts and Technology in Yixing, part of Wuxi city in eastern Jiangsu province.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and confessed to his actions, police said.

It is the second mass attack in China in a week.

Authorities in the southern Chinese city of Zhuhai said they had charged a 62-year-old man after a driver on Monday .
That incident sparked a rare online discussion about the mental health of Chinese society and whether a series of recent high-profile attacks in other major cities could reflect deeper tensions as the world's second-largest economy slows.
At least six other high-profile knife attacks have been recorded across China in 2024.
Police in Wuxi said it appeared the stabbing suspect was angry because he had not obtained his graduation certificate and failed an exam.
“According to preliminary investigation, the suspect, surname Xu – male, 21 years old, graduated from university in 2024 – attacked others after failing an exam and not receiving his graduation certificate, and because he was dissatisfied with his internship compensation,” said a spokesperson. said a statement from the Yixing Public Security Bureau.

It added that efforts are being made to treat the injured and investigate the case.
