Manitoba teachers reach new historic provincial collective agreement – Winnipeg

Manitoba teachers have accepted a unique deal for the province.

The new collective agreement applies to all 37 English-language school divisions. Previously, this was done through individual agreements per division.

Teachers voted 95 percent in favor of the deal, which will lead to a pay increase of more than 12 percent over the next four years.

Sandy Nemeth, president of the Manitoba School Boards Association, says this new agreement puts more financial pressure on departments.

“School boards across the province have always been very open and honest with the government that funding needs to keep pace with the expenditures that school boards are struggling with. This also applies to the discussions that are now taking place about a new funding model.”

According to Nemeth, the deal is about more than just money.

“We do everything we can to show and say out loud how important all our staff members are and we want them to feel valued, respected and safe at school.”

The new agreement will apply retroactively from July 2022.
