Bolton Wanderers aim for cup win against Tranmere Rovers

Myles Smith was part of the coaching team that guided West Ham United to the competition final in 2019 and this season his side start in the second qualifying round, meaning they are nine wins away from Wembley.

After starting the competition at 100 percent after six games, Vagrants are confident as they head to Ellesmere Port Sports Club on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 2pm).

And Smith admits he would love to be part of another cup campaign in his first season as Whites manager.

“The priority is obviously the league, but it’s the FA Cup, why wouldn’t you want to go as far as you can?” he told The Bolton News. “What a day it would be if we managed to play one of the bigger teams.

“We want to win everything we can.

“We played them in pre-season and had a rotated team, with a lot of players who were away at the time, but they gave us a really good test. It was a challenging game.

“We’re going there almost at full strength, so we’ll see what we can do.

“They are in the league above us, they will be at the top of that table at the end of the season, so we will have to be at our best. That is where we want to go.”

Wanderers will be without midfielder Lily Barnes for up to four weeks after picking up an injury in the recent win over Haslingden.

Mille Smith was successful last weekend and will likely retain her place against Tranmere.

“We’ve got good depth in this group and we’ve got players who can come in there and do a great job for us,” he said. “Millie went on at number four against Preston at the weekend and did an unbelievable job.

“There are a few other players who are still in doubt and need to be assessed, so we’ll see how it goes, but we’ll have a strong team at Tranmere.”
