Crane drops load at Oakridge construction site, 1 day after new safety regulations – B.C

One day after new crane safety regulations came into effect in British Columbia, Global News again learned of a load drop at the Oakridge construction site.

This is the same place where a worker was murdered earlier this year.

The latest incident happened Wednesday around 2:15 p.m. near 41st Avenue and Ash Street.

A photo submitted to Global News shows a bundle of pipes that appeared to have fallen onto a fence at the bottom of the site, narrowly missing traffic.

TransLink confirmed that the trolley cables were also damaged.

No injuries have been reported.

Husband of Oakridge crane accident victim speaks out

The City of Vancouver and WorkSafeBC confirmed they are aware of the incident, but no further details were provided.

This construction site is the same one where Yuridia Flores, a mother of two from Mexico, was killed on the job in February when a crane’s load crashed on top of her.

Global News has contacted EllisDon, the construction company operating the site. A request for comment has not been responded to at this time.
