A teenage boy wearing an Australian Defence Force uniform has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a man on the University of Sydney campus.
The New South Wales Joint Counter-Terrorism Team is investigating the matter, but police say a motive has not yet been established.
The background: Ambulances were called to the scene of the crash in Camperdown town centre at around 8.30am on Tuesday morning and found a 22-year-old man with stab wounds to the neck.
Police were told the alleged attacker boarded a bus and a 14-year-old boy was arrested a short time later near the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, which is next to the university.
What else you need to know: The boy was known to the police.
“The activities of this young person are unknown, but I think it could probably be categorized as a mixed and unclear ideology,” said Police Chief Mark Walton.
“It is certainly not a religious ideology.”
The injured man was taken to hospital in stable condition.
According to police, the teenager did not know the man before the alleged stabbing and had no ties to the military or cadets.
What happens now: A crime scene has been established on the university campus and the alleged attacker is undergoing a mental health assessment.
