Bolton Ramblers walks take place in November

The first walk, on Saturday 2 November, will see participants travel by bus to Cheshire to walk the Gritstone Trail – ‘one of the most beautiful walks in Cheshire’, if the Ramblers are to be believed.

Three different routes are offered along the Gritstone Trail.

The ‘A’ walk, which covers 11.5 miles, starts in Rushton Spencer and crosses fields, rivers and woodlands, with climbs to Winde Minn, Croker Hill and Teggs Nose, before descending to the village of Sutton Lane Ends for refreshments .

The ‘B’ walk, at 11.2 miles, starts in Oakgrove, south of Macclesfield, and climbs steadily to the Gritstone Trail on Croker Hill, also finishing at Sutton Lane Ends (with an optional summit of Teggs Nose en route) .

A gentler ‘C’ walk of five to six miles is also offered, which, like the other routes, ends at Sutton Lane Ends – where walkers have time for a drink before returning to Bolton by bus.

The bus will pick up walkers at 7.45am from the car park on the A6 near Chequerbent Roundabout, Westhoughton, and at 8am from Bolton Lads & Girls Club on Spa Road.

Seats on the bus cost £15 per person and can be booked by calling 07788 736 006 or emailing boltonramblers@hotmail.co.uk.

Hikers are advised to bring sturdy, weatherproof equipment and a packed lunch.

The second tour is a memorial walk.

The ‘leisurely’ four to five mile walk takes place on Sunday 10 November in the afternoon to Leadmines Clough and the Airmen’s Memorial at Rivington, with a break to remember the victims of all wars.

You do not need to reserve a place for this walk.

Participants are asked to meet in the car park next to Rivington Primary School on Horrobin Lane, BL6 7SE at 2pm, wearing appropriate clothing and boots.
